Suitable for senior high school or introductory university exercise science courses. The scope of the content is comprehensive. The wide range of presented topics align well to, and progress logically through, curricular outcomes for university preparation courses in exercise science.

This is a phenomenal teaching tool and a user friendly textbook filled with an abundance of colour, insight, and Canadian content, which makes it very easy to cover all aspects of the curriculum. It enables you to properly and effectively prepare students for post-secondary studies in Exercise Sciences. In addition, the Ancillaries (Question Bank CD, Teacher's Guide, Student Workbook, Graphic Package CD, and the Online Teaching and Learning Resources) aid in facilitating the efficient incorporation of technology in the classroom and furthermore, they are remarkable resources for hassle-free and valuable lesson planning.

I have had a chance to review the text
and was quite impressed. I will put the information regarding
the offer for a text for interested teachers on our
electronic network. Congratulations on the text. It will
certainly help many teachers and students as they work through
the Exercise Science course.

I am a recently retired physical education
teacher and I have been asked to teach the 4U Exercise Science
course at the National Ski Academy in Collingwood starting
in late October. I have reviewed your textbook, Foundations
of Exercise; it is complete as it meets of the ministry's
expectations and a lot more. The result is a comprehensive
resource that is palatable for students and teachers alike.

Peter, Your textbook (Foundations of Exercise Science) really is a masterful piece of work. I recently sent the following note to our regional PHE Supervisor and will continue to support your text. Nancy, I'm writing you RE. the Gr. 12 PSE 4U course that I will be teaching next semester. I am about to order the text we will be using for the course and would like your input. I have read both text books that have been approved and recommended and must say that the book entitled "Foundations of Exercise Science" by Dr. Peter Klavora is the text I prefer. I find Dr. Klavora's text to be "all-inclusive", "a course in a text" if you will, and definitely an "easy read". I would really appreciate your opinion and recommendations before I go ahead with the order.

This text book is amazing! The Canadian content and the pictures are a huge bonus. The textbook, teachers manual and the work book supports the ministry expectations so closely it has minimized my prep. time for each class. Each topic has been written at a grade 12 level so that students intending on pursuing a post secondary degree in science, kinesiology or medicine are well prepared. And the students who are taking the course for their own interest can also understand the content being presented. Even though I've taught this course for over 5 years, I feel I'm a better teacher for using Klavora's textbook.

Unlike the Thomson textbook, Klavora's text can be used at every grade level by the entire HPE department. It's challenging for the Grade 12 students but it is also an excellent resource for the younger grades and it supports the OPHEA binders too.

I have received a copy of your textbook
and it is very thorough and attractive. I will bring the
textbook to the attention of our Physical ducation Department
Heads at the next council meeting which should occur late
this month or in early October.

I found the textbook to meet all the
expectations by the ministry and felt that in some areas
went beyond own expectations. I was glad to see that the
textbook was not afraid to recognize the spiritual aspect
of health in the introduction. As a teacher teaching the
course for the first time and creating my own course of study,
I was encouraged by the textbook and the corresponding workbook.

The order has been faxed to the bookstore and should be forthcoming. Presently there are 138 students enrolled in the course. I am looking forward to working with you. Your text is awesome.

Finally a student friendly textbook PHE teachers can use in class. It's a great textbook for students who want to learn all the essentials of physical activity. A colourful, informative and well designed textbook that students and teachers can easily follow.

Dear Mr. Klavora
I am writing to thank you on providing me (a grade twelve exercise science
teacher) with the privilege of having the book entitled "Foundations
of Exercise Science Studying Human Movement and Health." Last winter
when our school had the enrolment necessary to offer the exercise science
course it was essential to go out and look for an exercise science textbook
that would be suitable for the students. After viewing many
textbooks, the majority of them had almost all of the units and topics required
by the ministry. However, these units were scattered throughout the book making
it difficult for the teachers as well as, the students to follow. The information
was presented in such a way that was to complex for grade twelve students,
which in the past would turn students away from the course. This book entitled, " Foundations
of Exercise Science: Studying Human Movement and Health", on the other
hand, was the only book that matches the curriculum expectations set out by
the ministry of education. Not only did it follow the units in proper sequence;
it was also presented in such a way that it was interesting and easy for the
students to understand. In addition, the exercise science student workbook
provides students with challenging and fun activities that relate back to the
topics covered in the text.
In addition, the "Exercise Science Teacher's
Guide", provides me with great lesson plans. This allows
teachers to spice up their lessons and provide students with
a variety of activities that are fun and interesting. These
lesson plans also provided course expectations along with
the outlines, which took me numerous hours for the grades
9 - 11 health courses in the past. The CD-ROM with a test
bank eliminates long hours searching for the perfect test
questions. This teacher's guide definitely forces the teacher
to be organized following the curriculum expectations while
at the same time providing students with lessons and activities
that are fun and interesting. Overall, if a lesson is fun
and interesting, it will definitely promote learning.
Finally, the Graphic Package offered me another way to spice up my lessons.
With computers being the way of the future, it makes it more interesting for
the students. The students nowadays do not want to look at overheads or writing
on the board. They want to see visual graphics and the anatomy, physiology
and biomechanics units show that you really don't need to dissect animals or
purchase expensive cadavers. At firs, I was hesitant in using the power point
presentation because I had never used it before and was never interested in
the uncertainty that comes with change. However, after finding out that it
was easy to use and understand I'm now thinking of transferring all my other
lecture notes for health on PowerPoint slide presentations.
The only bad experience that I'm having with this total package is that I now
expect these resources for all the other Health courses that I teach and they're
not available.
